A Septarian Nodule
Septarian nodules are sometimes confused with fossils since they can have a surface that appears to be reptilian scales or egg shell. I found this 2" example on Gonzales Beach in Victoria BC.

Previously Technical Director of Western Canada's largest commercial sheetfed shop. For several years Professor of Digital Graphic Design at Emily Carr University. Former Creative Director at McCann Ericksson Vancouver.
